Membership Celebration "Sold Out'
There are no more tickets available for the June 6th Membership Celebration.

While we are excited by the enthusiastic response to this event, we regret that we do not have enough seats for all who wanted to attend. Now that we know this is the kind of event members want, we will reserve a bigger room in the future.

Distance Learning Committee Forms

4C's members met on April 25 to discuss proposed Contract Language on teaching Distance Learning courses. Management's proposal applies to courses after they have been taught once. A 3 credit online course would be counted as 4 contact/credit hours.

Nursing/Allied Health Arbitration

Arbitration Hearings began on April 2 with Victoria Bozzuto, Allied Health Division Director at Gateway, testifying. Vicki said that it's difficult to recruit faculty for Allied Health programs because the starting salary is so low compared to what qualified individuals can make in the private sector.

The 4C's and the AFT are working to negotiate a new agreement to address some of the inequities in the current compensation package for Department Chairs and Program Coordinators. Management has presented the unions with job descriptions for Chairs and Coordinators, and for the new position of Academic Coordinator.

Thank Legislators for Supporting ARP Disability

The Appropriations Committee passed a budget which includes more than $400,000 for the Community Colleges to pay for disability insurance for members in the Alternate Retirement Plan (ARP). Employees in the State Employees Retirement System (SERS) have this protection, but ARP members must be covered by a supplemental disability insurance policy.

CT AFL-CIO Scholarship

The Connecticut AFL-CIO is offering a $500 tuition award for study at any accredited college or university to a high school senior who is a union member or the child of a member.
